There is a very specific plateau that Indian service websites hit. The site is technically clean, it loads fast, it has a decent backlink profile, and the money pages sit stubbornly between positions 12 and 18 for two years. Nothing the team does moves them. More links do not move them. A faster server does not move them.
The cause is almost always the same, and it is not glamorous: the page is thin in the sense that matters, which is not word count.
Thin does not mean short
A 2,500-word page can be thin. Thinness is the absence of information a reader could not have guessed. Take a typical "SEO Services in India" page: it explains what SEO is, lists on-page, off-page and technical as three bullets, promises transparency, and ends with a contact form. Every competitor's page says the same thing. Google has forty near-identical documents and no reason to prefer any of them, so it ranks them by link authority alone — which is why the page sits where its domain strength puts it and never climbs.
The pages that break out carry information that only their author could supply. Actual pricing bands, with what changes between them. Named constraints — which industries the author will not take on, and why. A worked example with real numbers. The failure modes: what goes wrong in month four, what a client has to supply for the work to proceed, what happens if they do not.
The test
Read your own money page and highlight every sentence that would still be true if you pasted a competitor's name over yours. On most Indian service pages, that is 80-90% of the copy. The highlighted portion is doing nothing for you. It is not harmful, exactly — it is just invisible, because it carries no signal that distinguishes the document.
Now do the inverse. Count the sentences that a reader could not find on any other page in the SERP. If the answer is under five, that page is not going to move regardless of how many links point at it.
What to add, in order of effect
Specifics with numbers. "We improve rankings" is nothing. "A Pune manufacturing client went from 190 to 1,400 monthly organic sessions over eleven months, with the gain concentrated in eight product-category pages" is something. Use real figures or none.
The process, dated. What happens in week one, week four, week twelve. Prospects are trying to work out whether you have done this before; a dated sequence answers that in a way no adjective can.
Constraints and disqualifiers. Saying who you are not for is the strongest trust signal available and almost nobody uses it. It also earns the page long-tail traffic for queries about fit.
Questions answered properly. Not an FAQ block of six softballs. The three questions prospects actually ask, answered at length, including the ones with awkward answers — what it costs, how long before anything moves, what happens if it does not work.
Evidence that survives a click. Screenshots of Search Console with dates. Client names where permitted. Links to live work. The pattern behind which pages AI search engines choose to cite is the same pattern: verifiable specifics beat confident generalities.
Why this is the highest-leverage fix available
Because it is the one thing your competitors will not copy. They can buy the same links. They can hire the same developer to fix Core Web Vitals. They cannot write your pricing bands, your failure cases or your client numbers, because those are yours.
It is also the fix that compounds with everything else. Links pointing at a page with genuine information convert better and earn secondary citations. The same page becomes quotable in AI answers. And it stops the cannibalisation problem, because a page with distinctive content naturally stops overlapping with its neighbours — though if you already have overlap, find it first, because rewriting two competing pages without merging them just produces two better competitors.
Businesses that want this done as a structured rewrite rather than a content refresh can work with an SEO expert in India who will audit the money pages before touching anything else. The audit is the cheap part. The rewrite is the part that moves position 15 to position 6.
